Senior Software Engineer - Public Cloud Engineering

The Public Cloud Engineering organization provides the foundational platforms, services, and guardrails that enable Bloomberg's use of public cloud technologies. From security, governance, and identity to networking, observability, deployment, and compute, our teams build the capabilities that allow engineering organizations to safely and efficiently develop, deploy, and operate solutions across public cloud environments.

As Public Cloud Engineering continues to grow, we are hiring software and platform engineers across multiple technical domains. Successful candidates will join a team focused on one or more of the following areas:

Cloud Adoption & GovernanceWorkload onboarding and enablement, governance automation, runtime security posture management, and AI onboarding and governance patterns.

Compute PlatformsCloud compute foundations, runtime standards, platform integrations, and multi-cloud compute capabilities.

Compute DeploymentTrusted compute delivery, image lifecycle management, publishing workflows, provenance, and software supply chain capabilities.

Networking & Connectivity PlatformCloud networking APIs, hybrid connectivity, network automation, and connectivity controls.

Identity & Access PlatformHuman and workload identity, access governance, secrets and certificate lifecycle management, and cloud access foundations.

While individual roles are typically aligned to a specific platform domain, engineers within Public Cloud Engineering collaborate closely to deliver a cohesive cloud experience for Bloomberg's engineering community.

We'll trust you to

• Design, build, and operate scalable platform capabilities that enable Bloomberg's adoption of public cloud technologies

• Develop self-service tooling, APIs, automation, and workflows that improve the developer experience and reduce operational complexity

• Partner with engineering, security, SRE, and infrastructure teams to understand requirements and drive platform adoption

• Build reliable, secure, and maintainable solutions within your platform domain while contributing to broader Public Cloud Engineering initiatives

• Use software engineering and infrastructure-as-code practices to automate platform operations and improve service quality

• Help define standards, best practices, and paved-road experiences for engineering teams building on public cloud

• Contribute to the architecture, implementation, and long-term evolution of Bloomberg's public cloud platforms

You'll need to have

• 4+ years of professional software engineering, infrastructure engineering, site reliability engineering, or platform engineering experience

• Strong programming skills in one or more modern programming languages such as Go, Python, Java, or C++

• Experience designing, building, or operating production systems at scale

• Strong Linux/Unix fundamentals

• Experience with one or more public cloud providers, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform

• Experience with infrastructure automation and Infrastructure-as-Code technologies such as Terraform

• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, distributed systems, data structures, and algorithms

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

• A demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for automation and drive solutions from design through implementation

• A strong sense of ownership and a desire to solve complex technical problems

We'd love to see

• Experience building internal developer platforms, cloud platforms, or self-service engineering capabilities

• Experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Cloud governance, security, and compliance automation

• Identity and access management

• Secrets, certificate, or key management systems

• Cloud networking, hybrid connectivity, and network automation

• Compute platforms, runtime environments, and workload orchestration

• Software supply chain security and trusted deployment systems

• Observability, telemetry, reliability engineering, and incident management

• Platform APIs, orchestration systems, and developer tooling

• Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies

• Experience building highly available, distributed systems

• Experience contributing to shared platforms used by multiple engineering teams

• Experience working in large-scale enterprise or regulated environments

• Contributions to open-source software or cloud-native communities
