HBCE Country Branch Compliance

A Branch Compliance teams consist of Compliance Officers, including the Head of Financial Crime (FC) and Regulatory Compliance (RC), with expertise specific to the European Union (EU) country they operate in.  They face the local business and provide country-specific advice, as they have expertise in local regulatory requirements.  General advisory matters are mostly handled by the HBCE Compliance CoE, while more complex matters may involve specialists in the RC and FC teams.  Besides their Risk Stewardship (advice and challenge) responsibilities Branch Compliance also performs typical RC and FC activities, such as interaction with the local regulator and MLRO duties (for which they liaise with the HBCE RC and FC teams as required).  

The Head of Financial Crime and Regulatory Compliance in Sweden is responsible for ensuring HSBC’s operations in the geography and/or line of business are effective in identifying, managing and mitigating Regulatory Compliance and Financial Crime and Fraud risks.

What you’ll do:

• Act as Head of Financial Crime and Regulatory Compliance for the country branch, owning oversight of regulatory compliance and financial crime risks in the HBCE Sweden branch covering also Norway, Denmark, Finland.
• Provide expert, practical advice and credible challenge across the business, including on new products, initiatives and complex advisory topics (e.g. cross-border risks, conflicts of interest, information barriers, outsourcing).
• Provide insight on current, emerging and horizon risks, supporting risk and control management activity including Risk and Control assessments, control monitoring and related governance.
• Serve as a key point of contact for Regulatory Affairs / Policy Oversight matters, bringing deep understanding of local regulatory requirements and market practice.
• Support regulatory engagements and business developments, including oversight of Regulatory Mapping activities.
• Deliver implementable policies, support the business to embed them, monitor compliance and escalate non-compliance robustly when required.
• Build and sustain a strong compliance and conduct culture where Compliance is valued as a trusted partner.
• Deliver regular compliance training and awareness sessions across the country branch.
• Lead governance and reporting for country compliance matters, including maintaining compliance databases and preparing papers for governance fora, with escalation to regional teams where required.

What you’ll bring:

• Proven expertise in Regulatory Compliance and Financial Crime risk management within banking/financial services, ideally within Swedish and EU regulatory context.
• Strong leadership capability with experience building, motivating and developing high-performing teams in an inclusive environment.
• Confidence operating as a senior adviser and challenger to business leadership, with sound judgement and a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach.
• Demonstrated experience engaging with regulators and managing regulatory relationships and interactions.
• Strong governance, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across country, regional and global teams.
• A track record of driving timely issue resolution, escalation, and delivery of audit/regulatory recommendations in line with control standards.
• Fluent in English and Swedish; other languages relevant to the market(s) served would be an asset; and French a plus

The pay range for this role is 1,157,300 SEK -  1,650,000 SEK
