The Opportunity

As part of the Financial Services Risk Management (FSRM) Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) practice, you will help financial institutions strengthen the effectiveness, efficiency and governance of their transaction monitoring frameworks. The role focuses on transaction monitoring model calibration and tuning, threshold optimisation, scenario effectiveness and data-led enhancement, while supporting broader FCC transformation and technology-enabled compliance programmes.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end transaction monitoring calibration and tuning engagements, from scope and methodology design through analysis, recommendations, implementation support and governance approval.

• Assess the effectiveness and efficiency of transaction monitoring scenarios, rules, thresholds, segmentation and customer or account risk parameters.

• Apply quantitative and risk-based techniques to identify threshold changes, scenario coverage gaps, alert-volume drivers and opportunities to improve detection while managing false positives.

• Plan and oversee data extraction, data-quality assessment, profiling and analytical testing across customer, account, transaction, alert, case and reference data.

• Design and execute below-the-line and above-the-line testing, back-testing, sensitivity analysis, outcome analysis and other relevant effectiveness assessments.

• Develop defensible calibration documentation, including methodology, assumptions, limitations, results, rationale, control requirements and management recommendations.

• Translate regulatory expectations, typologies, risk assessments and business changes into practical monitoring requirements and implementation plans.

• Work with compliance, operations, data, technology, model risk, internal audit and business stakeholders to resolve issues and obtain decisions.

• Manage project scope, workplans, budgets, risks, dependencies, quality and client communications, and deliver assignments to a high level of client satisfaction.

• Lead, coach and review the work of project teams, and contribute to proposals, solution development and the continued growth of the FSRM FCC practice.

Skills and Attributes for Success

• Strong hands-on knowledge of transaction monitoring calibration, tuning, optimisation and effectiveness testing within a financial institution or consulting environment.

• Ability to interpret analytical results in the context of financial crime risk and convert findings into clear, implementable recommendations.

• Sound understanding of transaction monitoring data flows, alert generation, case management processes, model or rule governance and change controls.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex processes using a risk and control lens.

• Effective leadership, project management and stakeholder-management skills, including confidence engaging senior client stakeholders.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear methodology papers, reports and executive presentations.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Experience using SQL, Python, SAS or data visualisation tools for analysis is advantageous.

• Self-motivated, adaptable and able to prioritise competing demands in a fast-moving environment.

To Qualify for the Role, You Must Have

• A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in financial crime compliance, transaction monitoring, FCC analytics, model or rule optimisation, or related regulatory technology work.

• Demonstrable experience delivering at least one end-to-end transaction monitoring calibration or tuning exercise, with clear ownership of methodology, analysis and stakeholder recommendations.

• Experience with transaction monitoring scenarios, thresholds, segmentation, alert and case data, data-quality assessment and effectiveness testing.

• Experience leading workstreams or teams and managing client or senior stakeholder expectations, timelines and deliverable quality.

• Good understanding of AML/CFT risks, typologies, controls and the broader FCC operating model within banking, insurance, asset management or other regulated financial services.

• Knowledge of regulatory expectations relevant to Singapore, including MAS requirements and guidance. Knowledge of other major ASEAN or global jurisdictions is advantageous.

• A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as finance, accounting, business, economics, law, computer science, data analytics, mathematics or statistics.

Ideally, You’ll Also Have

• Experience with established transaction monitoring platforms or solutions, and an understanding of upstream data and downstream alert or case workflows.

• Experience in FCC data analytics, model validation, customer risk rating, sanctions or payments screening, or wider FCC technology transformation.

• Working knowledge of statistical approaches, scenario segmentation, data visualisation and automation used in calibration or monitoring effectiveness reviews.

• Professional qualifications such as CAMS, an ICA Diploma in AML, or relevant risk, data or technology certifications.

• Consulting experience, including proposal development, project commercial management and delivery across multiple stakeholders.
