Senior Technical Staff, Field Applications Engineering

Your Role

GlobalFoundries is seeking an experienced Senior Member of Technical Staff (SMTS), Field Applications Engineering to support and drive customer technical engagements across Security IC, MCU, and Display Driver IC (DDIC) markets.
Responsible for providing senior-level technical leadership, owning complex customer opportunities, and supporting design-win execution in collaboration with Sales, Product Marketing, Design Enablement, and Technology Development teams. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers, translating system and product requirements into compelling GlobalFoundries technology solutions while helping identify gaps, risks, and opportunities across GF’s technology portfolio. 

Customer Technical Engagement

• Serve as a senior technical interface to customers in Security IC, MCU, and DDIC application areas.

• Develop customized technical presentations, proposals, and solution recommendations to support customer evaluation of GF technologies.

• Understand customer product requirements, design constraints, schedules, and competitive alternatives.

• Coordinate technical discussions across customer engineering teams and internal GF experts.

• Support customer design-in activities from initial evaluation throughtapeoutreadiness.

Design Win Support and Opportunity Execution

• Drive technical actions required to support design-win closure for assigned opportunities.

• Partner with account managers and sales teams to align customer needs, technology positioning, and business objectives.

• Support technology demonstrations, benchmark analysis, and value proposition development.

• Identify technical risks, enablement gaps, and execution bottlenecks that may impact design-in success.

• Track and follow up on customer technical issues to ensure timely resolution.

Market Segment Expertise

• Provide application-specific technical support for key growth segments:

• Security IC:secure element, payment, ID,eSIM, embedded NVM, low-power and high-reliability requirements.

• MCU:automotive, industrial, and IoT applications requiring embedded memory, mixed-signal integration, and reliability qualification.

• DDIC:OLED/LCDdisplaydriver applications, high-voltage and analog integration, timing/interface requirements, and BCD-related technology needs.

• Monitor market and technology trends relevant to Security IC, MCU, and DDIC opportunities.

• Provide competitive and customer feedback to internal product and technology teams.

Solution Definition and Technical Problem Solving

• Translate customer requirements into appropriate GF technology, IP, PDK, and enablement recommendations.

• Support evaluation of suitable process platforms such as 22FDX, 28nm, BCD, RF/AMS, and embedded NVM options where applicable.

• Work with internal experts to resolve design, process, reliability, yield, and enablement issues.

• Summarize customer requirements and technical gaps clearly for internal decision-making.

• Contribute to roadmap feedback by identifying recurring customer needs and portfolio limitations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Collaborate closely with Product Marketing, Design Enablement, Technology Development, Quality, and Operations teams.

• Provide real-time customer feedback to internal stakeholders.

• Support internal reviews related to opportunity qualification, technical readiness, and design-win strategy.

• Influence internal teams through technical credibility and customer-backed analysis, without formal people-management responsibility.

Operational, Safety, and Compliance Responsibilities

• Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner.

• Support all Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security requirements and programs.

• Maintain professional conduct consistent with GlobalFoundries policies and customer confidentiality expectations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

• Minimum8–12 yearsof semiconductor experience in one or more of the following:

• IC design

• System design

• Foundry customer interface

• Semiconductor application engineering

• IC or system test

• Strong understanding of semiconductor process technologies, design rules, design enablement flows, IP, PDKs, and EDA tools.

• Experience supporting customer design-in activities, technical evaluations, or design-win execution.

• Strong technical communication, presentation, organization, interpersonal, and influencing skills.

• Ability to work effectively across global and cross-functional teams.

• Strong sales aptitude and customer-facing mindset.

• Ability to travel to customer sites and GF fabs in Asia, the United States, and Europe.

• Travel requirement: approximately 30%.

Preferred Qualifications

• Security IC, secure element, smart card, payment, ID, oreSIMproducts.

• MCU platforms for automotive, industrial, consumer, or IoT applications.

• DDIC, display driver, timing controller, OLED/LCD display, or high-voltage analog products.

• Experience with embedded NVM technologies such aseFlashor MRAM.

• Experience with automotive-grade requirements, reliability qualification, or quality standards.

• Ability to connect process/device capability to system-level customer value.
