About the role
Roku pioneered TV streaming and continues to innovate and lead the industry. The Roku Channel has us well-positioned to help shape the future of streaming. Continued success relies on investing in the Roku Cloud TV Platform so we deliver high quality streaming TV experience at a global scale.
You will be part of the Roku Video Platform Engineering team that is building the next generation video services for the Roku Cloud TV Platform. In this role you will work on key video services projects around video ingestion, encoding, VoD/live-linear, Ads Insertion services, DRM and Video QoS, with the goal of delivering best-in-class streaming TV experience across all of Roku devices. The projects that you will work on will impact millions of Roku users around the world. All along, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with key product engineering stakeholders across Roku engineering teams, and lead the design of our video services platform.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical leadership, bring endless curiosity and can pair a global mindset with locally relevant execution. You should be a gritty problem solver and self-starter who can drive programs with the product and commercial teams within Roku and across external strategic partner organizations. The successful candidate will display a balance of hard and soft skills, including the ability to respond quickly to changing business needs.
How will I use AI at Roku?

We valueyour AI skills if you have built fluency across the agentic engineering toolchain — coding harnesses like Claude Code or Cursor, MCP servers, custom skills, or agent frameworks. And you can describe projects where you shipped real work with these tools. You know how to drive an agent, verify its output, and ramp on an unfamiliar codebase with an agent helping you.
What you’ll be doing
- You will lead a team of engineers towards building high availability cloud hosted video platform that powers key elements of the Roku streaming platform.
- Spearhead efforts towards building scalable and robust video processing pipelines, improve video workflows including transcoding, packaging, publishing and ads insertion
- Provide technical and organizational leadership in executing our video services initiatives including to deliver high quality, low latency, delightful streaming experiences, fine tune quality of experience, investigate and remediate potential streaming quality of service problems
- Key technical contributor to the design and implementation of core software backend components of video services platform
- Evaluate architectural tradeoffs for performance and security for high performance, and high concurrency video infrastructure applications
- Drive relentless focus on innovation, increasing user delight and improving the quality of user experience, reliability, stability, security and quality of the apps. Contribute towards enhancing a culture of engineering and operational excellence.
- Collaborate across teams – Work with product, UX, and engineering teams to define scope and make product decisions, Influence cross-team alignment and provide thought leadership across the organization
- Attract top engineers in the industry, mentor and guide overall professional development of the team
We’re excited if you have
- 5+ years proven track record in hiring, building and leading high-caliber product engineering teams
- 8+ years of software development experience with deep technical knowledge and expertise in building high availability, large-scale distributed systems and services
- Experience with modern cloud-based video processing platforms, e.g. AWS Elemental or Azure Media Services
- Video Streaming domain knowledge, experience with media formats, e.g. DASH, HLS, CMAF, MPEG-4, etc., and DRM technologies such as Widevine and Fairplay
- Experience with Ad insertion technologies and frameworks is a big plus!
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders, teams, and senior leaders across the organization. Ability to operate at both hands-on technical depth and strategic leadership level
- Strong leadership, collaboration and communication skills in working with cross-functional teams across the organization, and delivering on big and ambitious goals
- Experience in Connected TV environments – with understanding of the unique technical constraints and requirements of this space is a big plus.
- Demonstrable GenAI fluency and in actively using Agentic AI engineering tools to accelerate product development
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, plus 10+ years of experience or equivalent; Master's degree preferred.
