As a Lead Substation Physical Design Engineer, you will be involved in:
Perform conceptual and detailed HV and MV Substation Physical/Electrical design for medium to large scale utilities/substations (including basic layout, electrical arrangement, one line, three-line drawings, plan-section, grounding, AC and DC system drawings)
Perform advanced engineering studies and calculations
Perform Quality Control reviews on medium to large substation physical design projects
Create and review bill of materials for substation physical projects
Develop and review proposals, and scopes of work for substation physical projects
Develop and provide advanced technical presentations to the team to assist with staff technical development
Be involved in client interaction (including site visits) with a drive for customer satisfaction
Provide leadership and mentorship to junior engineers
Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with the internal teams and clients to meet project objectives
What Sets You Apart (Background Requirements):
4+ years of prior relevant experience.
Bachelor of Science Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or Industrial). Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Leadership experience in executing substation projects
Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with the internal team and clients to meet project needs.
Ability to lead bids and proposal effort for utility clients
Ability to perform quality control checks on substation design projects.
Act as a supervisor for one to six direct reports
Ability to read and design substation physical drawings such as one-line drawings, three-line drawings, plan-section drawings, foundation, grounding drawings.
Ability to read and design substation protection and control drawings such as one-line drawings, three-line drawings, AC/DC schematic drawings and wiring design
Ability to create and check bill of materials for substation physical
Act as a key contributor to the development of substation physical application documents to define design scope, philosophies, methodologies, and criteria for medium and high-voltage substation projects.
Experience with grounding studies/lightning protection and lighting studies.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in related field
Experience with QA/QC
Working knowledge of protection and control design
Experience with BUS calculations.
Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS
Experience with SDS AutoCAD Electrical software.
