CPU Post Silicon Power and Performance Engineer, Senior/Staff - Cork, Ireland

As a CPU Post-Silicon Power and Performance Engineer, you will work on the characterization, analysis, debugging, and optimization of next-generation CPU technologies within complex SoC platforms. You will develop validation methodologies, design experiments, analyze silicon behavior, and provide actionable feedback to architecture, design, and product teams. Working across hardware and software domains, you will leverage laboratory instrumentation, automation, and data analysis techniques to ensure that silicon meets performance, power, and product objectives.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Define and execute end-to-end power, performance, and characterization plans for CPU and SoC subsystems.

• Develop measurement methodologies and experiments to evaluate silicon behavior across a wide range of workloads and operating conditions.

• Debug performance, marginality, and power miscorrelations with pre-silicon projections in post-silicon.

• Analyze interactions between CPU microarchitecture, memory hierarchy, interconnects, firmware, operating systems, and platform components.

• Process, sanitize, analyze, and interpret large datasets to derive meaningful engineering insights and recommendations.

• Collaborate closely with architecture, design, verification, firmware, and software teams to improve current and future products.

• Drive continuous improvements in validation methodologies, tooling, and technical capabilities.

What Are We Looking For?

• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

• 5+ years of experience in post-silicon validation, CPU characterization, power/performance analysis, or related fields.

• Good understanding of modern CPU microarchitectures, including out-of-order execution, speculation, memory hierarchies, caching, and system-level performance behavior.

• Knowledge of ARM architectures and ecosystem technologies is a strong plus.

• Solid understanding of semiconductor fundamentals, including transistor operation, FinFET technologies, leakage mechanisms, dynamic power, voltage-frequency relationships, and process variation.

• Strong programming and scripting skills (Python, C/C++, or similar) with experience developing automation, instrumentation, and data analysis solutions.

• Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, DAQs, logic analyzers, and automated measurement systems.

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess data quality, identify anomalies, validate results, and perform root-cause analysis.

• Experience collecting, processing, and interpreting large volumes of silicon, telemetry, or measurement data.

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

• Self-motivated and capable of independently driving technical investigations from experiment design through final recommendation.
