Principal Product Manager
Microsoft · Washington, United States · 12h ago
Join the Microsoft Word team in Redmond to shape the next generation of productivity experiences used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Our global team helps people create, edit, and collaborate on high-impact documents with confidence.
We’re looking for a Principal Product Manager to own how we understand our customers and our business, turn that understanding into team-wide insights, and craft customer-facing narratives that translate the insight into value. You’ll partner with people across the company to bring together customer signals, product telemetry, competitive intelligence, and market context, synthesizing the information for the Word leadership team. You’ll identify opportunities and ensure they move forward, whether that means enabling an existing owner or personally taking on the work through execution and delivery. Over time, you’ll expand into evolving how PMs across the team engage with customers and partner with Marketing to tell our story externally, and establish durable operating rhythms and AI-backed systems that raise the bar for how the broader PM team engages with customers and data.
This role is for a builder PM with a B2B product foundation who lets their curiosity guide them in exploring information, has the self-motivation to work through internal barriers to achieve their goals, has the structure and discipline to set up and maintain operating rhythms, and enjoys crafting stories for internal and external executive-level audiences. Success requires developing a deep understanding of how Word and the surrounding systems work, relentlessly digging into data until questions are answered, moving fluidly between strategic thinking and hands-on execution, leveraging AI with appropriate judgement, and influencing partner teams without authority.
Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
Responsibilities
Own the business-insights strategy and operating model for Word, connecting product telemetry, customer feedback, market signals, and competitive intelligence into clear insights on a regular basis.
Turn complex data and market context into a concise, persuasive narrative for executives and cross-functional stakeholders. Pay attention to industry shifts, interpret their implications, and translate those implications into product choices.
Lead B2B customer engagements and convert customer feedback into specific product, go-to-market, and investment insights.
Build deep fluency in Word's feature-set, data, architecture, release, and the surrounding web of cross-team ownership that when a key business metric moves you can form and test concrete hypotheses about the cause.
Partner with teams across the organization to develop and evolve key business metrics, dashboards, and AI-tooling.
Use AI to accelerate high-trust insight generation and build repeatable systems, freeing the broader PM team to spend more time on judgment and less on synthesis.
Partner closely with engineering, design, research, and other product teams to deliver features while balancing customer value, quality, scope, risk and readiness across endpoints.
Partner with marketing, field, social, engineering, design, research, and the broader PM team to shape core value propositions, messaging, feature amplification, customer advocacy, release communications, and adoption strategies.
Exercise cross-functional leadership and operate with equal comfort in detailed analysis, organizational execution, and executive communication.
Contribute to an inclusive, collaborative team culture by sharing knowledge, supporting peers, and participating actively in the global Word product community.
