Fraud Associate I - Global Banking Fraud Recovery

As a Fraud Associate I within the Global Banking Fraud Recovery team, you will serve as a technical subject matter expert and owner of complex recovery cases across check and electronic payment recovery. You will manage high-risk and high-value matters, build recovery strategies, and coordinate with internal teams and external financial institutions to move cases to resolution. You will interpret procedures, controls, and payment conventions to determine the right recovery path and escalation decisions. You will guide analysts and leaders with practical, product-specific coaching—without formal people-management responsibilities. 

Job Responsibilities

• Own complex, high-risk, high-value recovery cases from intake through resolution, with clear documentation and timely follow-up.
• Build and execute recovery strategies across payment products (including check and electronic payments).
• Evaluate case facts, controls, and payment conventions to determine appropriate actions and escalation paths.
• Provide technical guidance to analysts and leaders on sensitive or ambiguous matters.
• Coordinate with internal partners (for example, client service, legal, operations, product, risk, and fraud teams) to drive resolution.
• Engage external financial institutions to pursue recalls, returns, or other recovery actions as appropriate.
• Support exceptional recovery scenarios (for example, indemnifications, warranties, and duplicate presentments) when applicable.
• Help prioritize urgent work, identify emerging risks, and reinforce consistent procedures and controls.
• Identify root causes, recurring issues, and control gaps, and recommend process improvements.
• Contribute to procedure updates, training content, and knowledge sharing that strengthens team capability.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

• Five years of operations experience (fraud, payments, investigations, claims, financial services, or client service).
• Strong critical thinking and investigative skills, with the ability to make risk-based decisions in complex scenarios.
• Working knowledge of fraud recovery practices, payment systems, operational controls, and documented procedures.
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally with clients, peers, leaders, and partners.
• Proven ability to manage multiple high-impact priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to progress work through ambiguity, especially when outcomes depend on external parties and extended timelines.
• Ability to influence without formal authority and provide constructive, practical coaching.
• Sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism when handling sensitive or escalated matters.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills 

• Experience supporting commercial or institutional banking clients and complex fraud recovery matters.
• Advanced experience with Check, ACH, Wire, RTP, Bad Beneficiary, Hold Harmless, UCC, Holder in Due Course, warranties, recalls, SWIFT indemnification, or recovery-related legal processes.
• Experience with quality calibration, root-cause analysis, training, procedure development, escalations, loss mitigation, or continuous improvement.
