Job Description:
The Role
This is a full-time role based in Austin or Dallas, Texas. This is a cross-functional role sitting in Sixth Street’s Core Engineering team. This role is closely aligned to our data and developer platforms but has a horizontal view across all engineering teams and stacks. This person will help ensure that teams are following “golden paths” and best practices, while also identifying common patterns and opportunities to factor shared solutions into central platform capabilities or libraries. This is not an ivory-tower position. It is hands-on and commercial. Areas of focus will include data pipelines, APIs, Service Oriented Architecture, and helping bring POC projects to market.

Core Responsibilities
- Design Partnership: Partner with development teams on complex architectural decisions; provide hands-on, practical feedback to ensure designs are robust, maintainable, and commercially sound.
- Golden Path Advocacy: Collaborate with Platform and Security teams to shape and drive adoption of “Golden Paths”; bring field feedback to the Platform team to ensure standards reflect real-world delivery needs.
- Platform Bridge: Serve as a technical bridge between product teams and Platform Engineering; translate recurring delivery friction into requirements for shared capabilities or libraries.
- Mentor and influence development teams on sound architectural principles, design patterns, and technical trade-offs; help senior engineers and tech leads think through complex decisions.
- Conduct hands-on technical due diligence on significant projects and architectural decisions; participate in design reviews and provide guidance to prevent costly mistakes.
- Hands-on Technical Leadership: Engage directly in design reviews, prototyping, and critical investigations; balance long-term engineering quality with pragmatic business outcomes.
- Identify recurring architectural problems and patterns across teams; work with Platform Engineering to determine which should become shared capabilities versus team-specific solutions.
- Stay current on relevant technologies and industry practices; evaluate whether new tools or approaches align with our strategy and add value across teams.
- Collaborate across engineering, data, analytics, and infrastructure teams to understand business requirements and translate them into sound architectural guidance.
- Champion developer experience and code quality; help teams build systems that are reliable, testable, and maintainable.
Preferred
- 15+ years’ experience in professional software development.
- Degree in Computer Science or STEM field preferred.
- Curiosity and hunger to keep learning
- Excellent programming skills in more than one major programming language. Python/Java experience strongly preferred
- Passion for CI/CD and shipping well-engineered code in a repeatable and reliable way.
- Experience designing RESTful APIs, and working with relational and “NoSQL” data stores
- Comfortable working in a Unix shell
- Strong sense of urgency; ability to execute quickly and efficiently with strong attention to detail
- Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams
- Strong prioritization and project management skills
- Comfort working in a high growth, iterative environment
