Department: CRMK-Risk Management Corporate Solutions (50009853)
Are you energized by uncertainty? Do you find yourself connecting dots across markets, technologies, and geopolitics—and translating those connections into insights that drive strategic decisions at the highest levels? If you thrive at the intersection of big-picture thinking and real business impact—and you have the experience and confidence to lead independently—this role was made for you.
Join Swiss Re's Group Risk Management team as a Senior Emerging Risk Manager and play a senior, influential role in shaping how one of the world's leading reinsurance groups anticipates and responds to the risks of tomorrow.
About the Role
This is an opportunity to work at the frontier of risk thinking within a globally recognized reinsurance group. You will take ownership of identifying and assessing emerging risks—scanning the horizon across societal, environmental, economic, political, and technological dimensions—and independently translating early signals into strategic, business-relevant insights. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will work closely with senior colleagues across the Group to ensure that emerging risks are embedded into Swiss Re's strategy and decision-making at the right level and at the right time.
This is a high-visibility role. You will be a trusted, senior voice with a Group-wide mandate, independently driving horizon scanning, data-informed analysis, expert engagement, and strategic risk outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead horizon scanning independently across societal, environmental, economic, political, and technological developments to identify and prioritize risks that may become strategically relevant for the re/insurance industry and Swiss Re specifically
- Own and drive risk assessments that explore the strategic consequences of specific emerging risks for the re/insurance industry and for Swiss Re, working in close collaboration with senior internal subject matter experts
- Serve as a senior risk partner to regional and functional emerging risk networks, driving engagement, fostering exchange of insights, and building alignment on key emerging risk topics at a strategic level
- Lead the development of data and AI-driven processes that strengthen and scale Swiss Re's emerging risk identification capabilities
- Define and shape internal communication and reporting formats that raise awareness of emerging risk topics and ensure strategic insights reach senior audiences and decision-makers across the organization
- Represent Swiss Re externally by engaging with clients and client-facing teams, leading selective participation in client forums to bring a credible, senior emerging risk perspective to external conversations
- Drive continuous improvement by maintaining a strategic view of value creation, costs, productivity, and effectiveness—and proactively championing enhancements to how the team operates and delivers impact
About the Team
Emerging Risk Management (ERM) is a Group Risk Management function with a mandate that spans all of Swiss Re's business units. The team's purpose is to anticipate and manage risks that may shape Swiss Re's future risk landscape—before they become mainstream concerns.
The ERM team identifies, assesses, and monitors emerging risks across geographies and risk types, with a particular focus on developments that are uncertain today but could have significant future impact on Swiss Re, its clients, and the broader industry. By combining structured horizon scanning, a robust internal expert network, and a centralized emerging risk database, the team provides a consolidated, forward-looking view of the evolving risk environment across the Group.
You will be part of a small, highly connected team that operates at the intersection of risk, strategy, and business—offering a unique vantage point and the opportunity to make a tangible difference in how Swiss Re prepares for the future.
About You
You are a seasoned, critically minded risk professional who operates with confidence and independence in ambiguous, fast-moving environments. You bring deep expertise, a strategic mindset, and a proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and shape organizational thinking. You are equally comfortable leading complex analytical work and communicating strategic risk narratives to executive-level audiences. You don't wait to be directed—you set the agenda.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- Educational background and experience: A degree in technology, economics, law/regulatory studies, natural or social sciences, or a related field, combined with at least 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience—preferably in financial services, underwriting, claims handling, or a strategic risk function
- Deep analytical expertise in risk, economics, science, technology, or a similar discipline, with a strong and demonstrated track record of translating complex analysis into strategic business application and senior-level recommendations
- Independent judgment under ambiguity: Proven ability to work autonomously with uncertain, incomplete, or early-stage signals and independently translate them into clear, structured, and strategically actionable insights
- Global strategic curiosity: A deep and sustained interest in global developments—technological, geopolitical, societal—and the ability to connect these to strategic implications for the re/insurance industry at a senior level
- Executive communication skills: The ability to communicate with authority and engage credibly with senior colleagues, leadership, and external stakeholders across functions and seniority levels; proficiency in English is required, and additional languages are a plus
These are additional nice to haves:
- Senior collaborative leadership: A track record of bringing together diverse, cross-functional perspectives and independently driving them toward a coherent, well-reasoned strategic view
- Strategic action orientation: A demonstrated drive to move beyond analysis—shaping actionable outcomes, influencing business decisions, and leaving a visible mark on organizational strategy
- Deep industry knowledge: Strong familiarity with the re/insurance industry, including a well-developed understanding of underwriting, investment, or enterprise risk management concepts
- Digital and AI fluency: Confidence with digital technologies and data-driven approaches, with enthusiasm for leading their practical application in a risk context
- Proactive thought leadership: A flexible, self-directed approach to work, with a high degree of initiative, intellectual curiosity, and a genuine commitment to advancing the field of emerging risk management
