Director of Data Science - Risk Monitoring SolutionsAbout the role
As Director II of Data Science for Risk Monitoring Solutions, you will be a senior leader within Merchant Solutions Decision Science & Risk Solutions, responsible for shaping and executing the strategy for AI/ML-powered portfolio management capabilities that accelerate sustainable growth for our Risk Monitoring solutions. You will lead the development of predictive models, real-time decisioning, and automated risk controls that help manage fraud and credit risk exposure while enabling revenue growth and improving the overall merchant experience.
This role will initially oversee growth in Risk Monitoring Solutions, with a primary focus on advancing real-time fraud detection capabilities for existing merchant populations. As the function and business needs evolve, the position may expand to include leadership of Clover Capital and Financial Value-Added Services, creating broader opportunities to drive portfolio growth and commercial value across the merchant lifecycle.
Success in this role requires strong partnership across Decision Science teams, Operations, Product, Technology, and client-facing teams. You will connect analytical innovation to business strategy, influence investment priorities, and ensure solutions are adopted, scaled, and optimized to deliver growth, stronger portfolio performance, and an improved merchant experience.
What you will do:
- Lead the multi-year strategy for Risk Monitoring Solutions, aligning capabilities, product roadmaps, and investment priorities to merchant risk and fraud management, retention, and decisions focused on risk-adjusted profitability.
- Lead modernization of portfolio analytics and decisioning through new data sources, advanced AI/ML techniques, real-time capabilities, experimentation, and reusable decision services.
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing organization of Data and Decision Science professionals, establishing clear priorities, strengthening leadership capacity, and creating a culture of innovation, accountability, and measurable impact.
- Identify and prioritize high-value opportunities across existing merchant portfolios, using merchant behavior, transaction activity, and external data to improve detection of fraud and risk events, and reduce avoidable attrition.
- Own the end-to-end development of predictive models, decision frameworks, and automated risk strategies—from opportunity sizing and business case development through deployment, adoption, monitoring, and continuous optimization.
- Represent Risk Monitoring Solutions with senior executives, clients, and strategic partners, communicating the vision, influencing decisions, and building strong capabilities.
- Maintain strong model governance, controls, and monitoring practices so that growth is delivered responsibly, transparently, and at scale.
What you will need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Finance, or a related quantitative discipline; advanced degree preferred.
- 12 years of progressive experience in data science, predictive modeling, fraud / risk analytics, or a related quantitative discipline, including significant experience leading leaders and multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated expertise in AI/ML, advanced analytics, experimentation, and decision optimization, with experience moving solutions from concept to production and scaled business adoption.
- Proven success defining and executing data and decision science strategies that drive fraud detection to reduce losses, revenue growth, customer retention, operating efficiency, or risk-adjusted profitability.
- Strong knowledge of payments, merchant acquiring, lending, fraud, credit risk, including how data and decisioning can create value across the merchant lifecycle.
- Executive-level communication and influence skills, with the ability to align senior stakeholders, present compelling business cases, and translate complex analytical concepts into clear decisions and outcomes.
- Experience leading cross-functional transformation across Product, Technology, Risk, Operations, Sales, and client-facing organizations.
- Working knowledge of modern analytical and data technologies, including Python, Snowflake, cloud platforms, real-time decisioning, and model deployment and monitoring environments.
What would be great to have:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Finance, or another quantitative discipline.
- Deep expertise in AI/ML techniques and advanced statistical modeling, including experience applying predictive analytics to business and risk management challenges, building or scaling analytics products, decision platforms within payments, fintech, lending, or financial services.
- Expertise in fraud, credit risk, merchant lifecycle analytics, and customer retention strategies.
- Track record of commercializing analytical capabilities and partnering with Product and Sales teams to strengthen client propositions and support revenue growth.
- Experience leveraging credit bureau, alternative, and third-party data sources to enhance risk assessments, predictive models, and automated decision strategies.
- Experience leading organizational change, modernizing analytical practices, and developing senior technical and people leaders.
How you will work:
This role is on-site Monday through Friday. Fiserv considers in-person collaboration to be an essential part of this role as in-person office experience helps you with your overall onboarding experience and leads to stronger productivity.

Salary Range
$155,000.00 - $258,000.00These pay ranges apply to employees in New Jersey and New York. Pay ranges for employees in other states may differ.
