Senior Core Infrastructure Engineer
Oracle · Bangalore, India · 13d ago
The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) team offers the opportunity to build and operate a suite of massive-scale, coordinated cloud services in a broadly distributed, multi-tenant environment. OCI delivers cloud products that support customers tackling some of the world’s most complex and business-critical challenges.
OCI Infrastructure Delivery Engineering is a growing organization responsible for building services and tools that accelerate how OCI expands its compute and network capacity. Our platform supports the end-to-end lifecycle of data centers and their physical assets—from planning and design, through delivery and operation, to eventual decommissioning. It enables OCI to scale efficiently in existing regions and launch new regions while meeting the high-capacity demands of large and hyperscale customers.
We are looking for a talented and passionate Senior Software Development Engineer to help design, build, and operate this foundational platform. You will work on highly available, scalable services that manage physical assets throughout their lifecycle. This is a greenfield environment with significant autonomy to innovate, while integrating with OCI systems through established service contracts.
You will be a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving challenging distributed-systems problems, values simplicity and customer impact, and takes ownership of quality in production. You will collaborate closely with engineers and partner teams to deliver reliable services that help OCI continue to grow its global footprint.
About You
You are a cloud development engineer who has contributed to high-scale, high-impact solutions.
You are customer-focused and consistently look for ways to exceed expectations.
You communicate technical concepts clearly and work effectively with diverse partners.
You hold yourself and your work to a high standard, continuously seeking better engineering outcomes.
You are comfortable operating in an evolving environment and can bring structure to ambiguity.
You are passionate about technology, able to advocate for your ideas constructively, and open to evidence-based alternatives.
Minimum Qualifications
BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years of professional software development experience, including 1+ year designing, delivering, or operating scalable, cloud-native distributed systems.
Proficiency in one or more high-level programming languages, preferably Go and/or Java; working knowledge of scripting or automation languages such as Python.
Experience contributing to products from the ground up through the full software development lifecycle.
Understanding of microservice design patterns, service-to-service communication protocols, and techniques for building highly reliable services.
Familiarity with service observability, including dashboards, critical service metrics, alarms, and operational health indicators.
Strong grasp of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and programming paradigms.
Experience with production operations and practices for safely deploying quality code, participating in on-call rotations, and troubleshooting incidents.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
Ability to communicate technical ideas verbally and in writing through design documents, proposals, architecture diagrams, and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
MS or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Experience in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Experience building control-plane or data-plane solutions for cloud-native platforms.
Experience diagnosing and resolving performance, reliability, or scaling issues in complex distributed environments.
Understanding of the physical asset lifecycle in a cloud-scale data center.
Experience with Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) systems or related tools.
Experience with Kubernetes and containerized workloads.
Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.
Familiarity with modern infrastructure components such as service discovery, secret storage, containerization, and software-defined networking.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, test, deploy, and operate services and tools that accelerate OCI compute and network capacity growth.
Work with engineers and partner teams to define and deliver reliable, scalable capabilities for the physical asset lifecycle.
Investigate issues across the stack, resolve root causes, and improve service reliability, performance, and operational readiness.
Apply sound distributed-systems and cloud-infrastructure principles to deliver resilient production services.
Build and maintain meaningful service telemetry, dashboards, alarms, and runbooks to support operational excellence.
Participate in on-call rotations and incident response; use operational learnings to drive durable improvements.
Contribute to technical designs, architecture discussions, code reviews, and engineering standards.
Balance speed and quality through iterative, incremental delivery and thoughtful prioritization.
Work independently on well-defined problems and provide technical mentorship and support to junior engineers.
Communicate progress, risks, and technical trade-offs clearly, and help build consensus using data and sound engineering judgment.
