Reinsurance Solutions Analytics offers clients industry-leading Catastrophe Management, Impact Forecasting, Rating Agency Practice, Product Development and Research, Actuarial & ReMetrica support. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ROLE: As a Data Scientist, you will be working in the International Natural Catastrophe Research Team which consists of 30 people based in India, UK, Singapore, Japan, and Australia. Most of the team have a technical background in Natural Catastrophe Modelling and peril specialisms (Meteorologists, Hydrologists, Geologists and Structural Engineers) with proficiencies in data science and programming. The team’s goal is to analyse the associated risk of natural perils, evaluate vendor Catastrophe models (RMS/Verisk) and build out independent views of risk. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES : Identify and extract data from multiple sources into a common format. Perform data validation, data exploration and feature engineering. Apply geospatial analysis to obtain meaningful insight from geospatial data. Research, recommend and implement statistical models appropriate for the given data. Utilise advanced machine learning, analytical and optimisation techniques to develop models to solve Aon’s business problems. Support Aon reinsurance research team with their activities and develop novel products. Become familiar with Aon’s internal workflow tools and integrate bespoke research workflows. Develop bespoke solutions to optimise existing research workflows. Translate analytical findings as business insight to stakeholders. Developing dashboards to display analytics both internally and externally of Aon. Skills And Knowledge Advanced level of knowledge with: Python or R, or any other scripting language. SQL Advanced level of knowledge with statistical techniques: Linear and Logistical Regression Decision Tree Random Forest Mid-Advanced level of knowledge with: Experience in Databricks and Snowflake. Version control systems used for software development, specifically Git. Knowledge and understanding of key Machine Learning and Data Science principles, consideration, and applications. Willingness to work collaboratively within a global team. Excellent problem-solving skills with an attention to detail. Well organised with an ability to manage multiple projects proficiently. Testing code and adjusting until programs work reliably as required and identifying and correcting program bugs. Willingness to understand Aon’s internal workflows and the research that the team undertakes.
