In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways
• Act as senior IFRS accounting specialist for German fund administration clients and ensure technically sound, controlled and timely IFRS accounting and reporting for in-scope investment funds.
• Translate client-specific IFRS requirements and accounting policies into clear booking rules, data specifications, controls and operating procedures across internal and international service-delivery teams.
• Oversee daily and period-end IFRS accounting, including classification and measurement under IFRS 9, SPPI and business-model assessments, amortised cost, FVOCI, FVTPL, effective-interest-rate amortisation and expected credit loss accounting.
• Review accounting for securities and derivatives, including accrued interest, premiums and discounts, foreign-currency valuation under IAS 21, realised and unrealised results, valuation adjustments, modifications and derecognition.
• Coordinate monthly, quarterly and annual IFRS closing activities, including posting controls, plausibility reviews, correction cycles and delivery of complete accounting outputs within agreed close timetables.
• Perform and evidence subledger-to-general-ledger, GL1/GL2, NAV-to-IFRS and HGB-to-IFRS reconciliations, investigate material differences and ensure transparent correction and escalation.
• Oversee IFRS 13 fair-value hierarchy classifications for Levels 1, 2 and 3 and support IFRS 7 disclosures, including completeness checks, valuation-input review, reclassifications and supporting reporting data.
• Coordinate critical data and interface dependencies across fund-accounting systems, general ledgers, reporting platforms and client interfaces, including holdings, transactions, master data, valuations and ECL inputs.
To be successful in this role, we are seeking the following
IFRS investment accounting expertise
• Extensive practical experience in IFRS investment accounting, fund accounting, asset-owner accounting or financial reporting within asset management, fund administration, insurance investment accounting or a comparable environment.
• Deep knowledge of IFRS 9, including SPPI criteria, business-model assessment, amortised cost, FVOCI, FVTPL, effective-interest-rate methodology, impairment and expected credit loss concepts.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS 7 and IFRS 13, particularly financial-instrument disclosures, fair-value measurement, valuation techniques and inputs, fair-value hierarchy levelling and transfers between levels.
• Sound understanding of parallel German accounting frameworks, including investment-law accounting under KAGB/KARBV, HGB and IFRS, and the ability to reconcile differences in recognition, measurement and presentation.
Accounting controls and service delivery
• Experience reviewing IFRS trial balances, subledger and general-ledger feeds, valuation and ECL outputs, notes disclosures, reconciliation evidence and audit documentation for complex investment portfolios.
• Strong experience with accounting controls, analytical review, materiality-based exception management, correction postings, data lineage and evidence retention.
• Ability to assess complex accounting matters independently, challenge inconsistent classifications, valuations or postings and translate conclusions into operational requirements and sustainable controls.
Professional capabilities
• Several years of progressively responsible experience in IFRS investment accounting or fund accounting, with sufficient technical depth to act as the principal specialist for complex accounting, closing and reporting matters.
• A degree in accounting, finance, business administration or a related discipline is expected. A professional accounting qualification such as Wirtschaftsprüfer, CPA, ACCA or equivalent is a plus.
• Strong analytical judgement, accuracy and attention to detail, combined with the ability to prioritise material accounting risks and manage demanding closing timelines.
• Excellent written and spoken German and English are required for technical documentation, client communication, audit support and cooperation with international teams.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required. Experience with SAP, Eagle or comparable accounting platforms, reporting tools, structured interfaces and workflow automation is an advantage.
What success looks like
• IFRS accounting and reporting is complete, technically sound, reconciled and delivered within agreed daily and period-end timetables.
• SPPI assessments, IFRS 9 classifications, ECL, amortisation, derivatives accounting and IFRS 13 levelling are subject to effective specialist review.
• Accounting and reporting data remains aligned across subledgers, general ledgers and downstream interfaces, with breaks identified and corrected transparently.
• Clients, auditors and internal stakeholders receive clear, reliable and timely explanations of accounting treatments, exceptions and required decisions.
