We’re actively seeking a talented Senior Financial Reporting Analyst to join the Variable Products Accounting team in Newport Beach, CA.
As a Senior Financial Reporting Analyst, you’ll move Pacific Life, and your career, forward by reviewing Pacific Select Fund financial statements, related notes, and other financial reporting schedules on a quarterly basis. The position also oversees expense and budgeting activities and Board of Trustee reporting. The position supports the annual audits with external auditors, updates internal control narratives, and researches new GAAP pronouncements. On a rotational basis this role supports the daily transfer agent responsibilities, such as, reviews of daily share reconciliations and price tolerances.
You will fill a new role that sits on a team of 14 people in the Variable Products Accounting team within Corporate Accounting & Reporting.
How you'll help move us forward:
- Gather financial information from various sources within the company to prepare US GAAP (e.g., Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, International Financial Reporting Standards, etc.), and statutory financial statements, surveys, and ad hoc reports for use by internal management and/or required by external regulatory reporting agencies (annually, quarterly, and/or more frequently).
- Gather reference material concerning new and existing technical accounting literature to ensure all reports and disclosures comply with applicable government regulations, professional standards and company policies.
- Assess external requirements, guidelines, peer disclosures, and market changes (e.g. GAAP, IFRS) which can impact the business, and is able to apply those to Pacific Life' context.
- Review financial numbers for unusual variances and provides recommendations or explanations. Provides appropriate audit documentation throughout the year, escalating issues with risk of financial exposure to management and making recommendations to mitigate risk.
The experience you bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred.
- Three to five years of financial reporting and auditing experience; mutual fund industry experience highly desired.
- One to two years of public accounting experience preferred.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines, particularly during quarterly financial reporting periods.
- Availability for extended hours during peak reporting periods, including January–March.
- Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, and Word.
- Works independently, receives minimal guidance.

Base Pay Range:
The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
