OUR IMPACT
The GSAM Fundamental Equities, Japan Team is seeking a highly motivated individual to work as a Associate or Vice President to cover listed companies in Real Estate and Small-Mid cap sectors and having flexibility to extend sector coverage as well.
Responsibilities
- Investment Research & Collaboration: Serve as an integral member of a deep, fundamental-driven investment team; closely collaborate with and support the Lead Portfolio Manager in fundamental research, risk management, and client marketing initiatives.
- Sector Ownership: Formulate high-conviction investment recommendations, maintain comprehensive financial models, and take direct accountability for the performance of the sectors under your coverage.
- Portfolio Management: Share joint responsibility for the overall performance, construction, and risk management of the funds under management in a Co-Portfolio Manager capacity.
- Corporate Engagement: Maintain regular, high-impact dialogue with Japanese senior management teams and IR professionals to drive bottom-up, fundamental research across multiple investment horizons.
- Risk & Compliance: Ensure all investment decisions align with risk limits, portfolio guidelines, and regulatory frameworks.
Requirements
- Experience: 10+ years of buy-side equity investment experience with a strict focus on fundamental bottom-up research.
- Track Record: A proven, demonstrable track record of generating independent investment ideas that have consistently generated alpha.
- Soft Skills: Outstanding team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of fostering collaboration and mentoring junior team members.
- Language Skills: Complete fluency in written and verbal English, combined with native-level Japanese language skills.
Preferred
- PM Experience: Prior track record of managing or co-managing long-only or long/short Japan equity portfolios.
- Credentials: CFA and/or CMA designations.
