The Microsoft Ads Live Marketplace team is responsible for monitoring and improving the health of the Microsoft Ads ecosystem. We partner closely with Engineering, Product Management, Data Science, Finance, Customer Support, and Operations teams to ensure a reliable and trusted marketplace that operates at global scale.Our team:Monitors marketplace and platform health across global regions, customers, and products.Investigates unexpected trends, anomalies, and performance deviations impacting advertisers, publishers, users, and revenue.Connects signals across business and technical systems to identify root causes and mitigation opportunities.
As a Principal Technical Program Manager, you will operate at the intersection of engineering, data science, business intelligence, operational excellence, and AI. You will investigate complex marketplace behaviors, drive improvements in how Microsoft Ads detects and responds to anomalies, influence technical strategy, and help shape the future of marketplace health and reliability.

Responsibilities
- Lead investigations into complex marketplace issues affecting customers, advertisers, publishers, revenue, and platform performance.
- Drive Marketplace Health and Reliability . Partner with engineering teams to strengthen observability, automated detection, and alerting capabilities.
- Lead cross-functional efforts involving Engineering, Product Management, Data Science, Finance, Operations, and Customer Support teams.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on marketplace performance, operational health, and strategic decision making.
- Develop frameworks, processes, and tools that improve organizational effectiveness and reduce operational overhead.
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI and intelligent automation to improve investigation efficiency and operational productivity.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 12+ years of experience in Technical Program Management, Software Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, Data Science, Product Management, or related technical disciplines.
- Experience with online advertising platforms, marketplaces, auction systems, search technologies, recommendation systems, commerce platforms, or other large-scale digital ecosystems.
- Experience leading incident response, root-cause investigations, post-incident reviews, and operational excellence initiatives.
- Experience building or improving observability, monitoring, anomaly detection, telemetry, or operational health frameworks.
- Experience working with machine learning, AI-powered systems, predictive analytics, or intelligent automation technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to influence engineering, product, and business leaders without direct authority.
- Track record of driving measurable improvements in reliability, operational excellence, customer experience, or business outcomes

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
