Base salary offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base salary is only part of the total rewards package, which may include eligibility for an annual discretionary incentive award. Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans then in effect, eligible employees may enroll in a 401(k) plan as well as participate in Company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance plans for the employee and the employee’s eligible dependents. Eligible employees also may receive other benefits (including various paid time off benefits, such as vacation and sick time), dependent on the position offered. We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Senior Director, Distinguished Engineer, Quality Engineering to join our team. This role is located in Pittsburgh, PA or New York, NY.
In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:
- Define and evolve BNY’s enterprise Quality Engineering strategy, standards, roadmap, and governance model.
- Drive modernization of test automation, test architecture, non-functional testing, and quality practices across the software development lifecycle.
- Establish data-driven quality metrics, including test effectiveness, defect escape rates, coverage confidence, feedback cycle times, and overall engineering quality indicators.
- Develop and scale a Quality Maturity Framework and Quality Champion network to drive adoption across engineering teams.
- Lead the design and implementation of modern quality engineering platforms and AI-enabled solutions that improve developer productivity and software quality.
- Drive enterprise capabilities across Test Data Management, Service Virtualization, and Performance Engineering and Automation.
- Advance intelligent automation capabilities such as risk-based testing, automated triage, failure clustering, flaky test reduction, and intelligent test selection.
- Serve as a senior technical authority in architecture reviews, governance forums, and cross-functional engineering initiatives.
- Partner with engineering, infrastructure, security, risk, and compliance teams to improve quality outcomes through standards, tooling, and engineering practices.
- Mentor engineers and technical leaders, fostering engineering-led quality practices and continuous improvement.
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 12+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Quality Engineering, SDET, or related disciplines.
- Deep expertise building and scaling enterprise test automation frameworks across unit, integration, component, contract, end-to-end, performance, and non-functional testing.
- Strong programming experience in Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, .NET, or similar modern languages.
- Proven experience designing production-grade engineering platforms, tools, and automation solutions.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD, continuous testing, and modern software delivery practices.
- Demonstrated success influencing technical strategy and driving adoption across large, complex, matrixed organizations.
- Ability to partner effectively across engineering, product, infrastructure, and governance functions to deliver measurable quality outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience modernizing enterprise Quality Engineering functions, particularly in Test Data Management, Service Virtualization, and Performance Engineering and Automation.
- Experience building or implementing AI-assisted quality engineering capabilities.
- Track record developing quality maturity models, engineering standards, and communities of practice.
- Experience operating within regulated environments while balancing speed, quality, and governance.
- Technical leader with a history of delivering scalable engineering platforms and enterprise-wide impact
