Senior Manager - Financial Crime Detection and Analytics
Bank of Queensland · Sydney, Australia +2 · 1d ago
About the role
As our Senior Manager, Financial Crime Detection & Analytics, you'll play a critical role in shaping how BOQ Group detects, prevents and responds to financial crime across AML/CTF, sanctions, fraud and scams. Sitting at the intersection of strategy, analytics, risk and technology, you'll lead the capabilities that help protect our customers, our organisation and the broader financial system.
You'll lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for transaction monitoring, customer and payment screening, fraud and scam detection, customer risk assessment and advanced analytics capabilities. You'll oversee the effectiveness of critical controls, guide the uplift of detection frameworks and help ensure we're identifying emerging threats while continuing to deliver strong customer and regulatory outcomes.
This role is as strategic as it is operational. You'll help set the roadmap for future capability, working with emerging technologies, advanced analytics, automation and artificial intelligence to enhance the way we detect and respond to financial crime risks. You'll also partner closely with executive stakeholders, governance forums, vendors and industry partners to drive innovation and continuous improvement across the organisation.
You'll have the opportunity to influence decisions, respectfully challenge thinking and see the direct impact of your work - joining a business where leaders are accessible, ideas are welcomed and your contribution won't get lost in the crowd. If you're looking for an opportunity where you can combine strategic leadership, data and analytics, financial crime expertise and meaningful customer impact, this is a role where your work will truly matter.
About you
You're a senior financial crime leader who thrives on solving complex problems and creating meaningful outcomes.
You bring extensive experience within banking or financial services and have built deep expertise across areas such as AML/CTF, sanctions, fraud, scams, transaction monitoring, customer risk assessment, screening and financial crime analytics. You've successfully led leaders, influenced senior stakeholders and delivered large-scale capability uplift or transformation initiatives within complex environments.
You enjoy taking a strategic view, connecting data, intelligence, technology, regulatory obligations and customer outcomes into practical solutions. You're comfortable translating complex information into clear recommendations and can confidently engage with executives, governance forums, regulators and technical specialists alike.
Your leadership style is collaborative, authentic and empowering. You know how to build high-performing teams, develop future talent and create an environment where people feel supported to challenge ideas, think differently and deliver their best work. You lead with curiosity, integrity and sound judgement, balancing customer protection, regulatory expectations and commercial realities.
Most importantly, you're motivated by purpose. You understand that strong financial crime controls help protect customers, communities and the broader financial system, and you're excited by the opportunity to help shape what that looks like at BOQ Group for years to come.
