Lead Principal Advanced Services Engineer
Oracle · San Francisco, United States · 9h ago
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure delivers a secure, performant, and scalable cloud platform for enterprise and mission-critical workloads. As customers move increasingly complex and data-intensive applications to the cloud, storage architecture and file services are critical to successful migration, performance, and operations.
Position Overview
Oracle is seeking a highly accomplished Advanced Services Engineer, OCI Storage & File Services to serve as a senior technical leader helping customers architect, migrate, onboard, and operate mission-critical workloads on OCI.
This is a deeply technical, customer-facing engineering role requiring strong expertise in enterprise and high-performance storage, file systems, Linux, networking, and cloud infrastructure. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with technologies such as NetApp ONTAP, Lustre, NFS, and other enterprise or scale-out file and storage platforms, along with a strong understanding of the applications and workloads that depend on them.
The Advanced Services Engineer will work with some of OCI's most strategic and technically demanding customers to solve complex issues spanning storage, compute, networking, operating systems, and applications. The role will also partner closely with senior Product Management and Engineering leaders to translate customer requirements into product improvements and roadmap priorities.
This is a senior individual contributor role expected to have broad impact across OCI Storage and the wider OCI organization.
Key Responsibilities
Lead architecture, onboarding, migration, and optimization engagements for mission-critical workloads that depend on enterprise and high-performance storage.
Troubleshoot complex technical and performance issues across storage, compute, networking, Linux, and application layers, driving problems from initial investigation through root cause and resolution.
Understand customer workload behavior, including I/O patterns, throughput, latency, metadata, concurrency, availability, and capacity requirements, and translate those requirements into production-ready OCI architectures.
Partner with OCI Storage Engineering, Product Management, Compute, Networking, Support, and other teams to resolve customer issues and influence product strategy and roadmap priorities.
Develop reusable technical assets, including reference architectures, migration guidance, blueprints, best practices, technical blogs, troubleshooting methodologies, and performance guidance.
Serve as a senior technical authority across OCI by mentoring engineers, leading architecture reviews, identifying recurring customer patterns, and driving systemic improvements that benefit multiple customers.
The ideal candidate is a senior infrastructure engineer or architect who combines deep systems expertise with strong customer-facing and cross-functional leadership skills.
10+ years of experience in storage engineering, systems engineering, cloud infrastructure, high-performance computing, technical consulting, or a related technical role.
Deep hands-on expertise with enterprise or high-performance file services such as NetApp ONTAP, Lustre, NFS, parallel file systems, scale-out NAS, or distributed storage systems.
Strong Linux, storage, and networking expertise, including the ability to diagnose performance, reliability, and connectivity issues across distributed systems.
Experience with large-scale data migration, workload onboarding, performance engineering, benchmarking, capacity planning, and production troubleshooting.
Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, preferably OCI, and the interaction between storage, compute, networking, security, and observability services.
Demonstrated ability to work directly with senior engineering and product leaders, influence without direct authority, and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and executive audiences.
Experience in several of the following areas is highly desirable:
NetApp ONTAP, Lustre, NFS, and enterprise file services
Linux storage and performance analysis
High-performance computing and AI/ML infrastructure
Large-scale analytics, media, engineering, and other data-intensive workloads
Storage performance engineering, benchmarking, and workload characterization
OCI or other major public cloud platforms
Data migration, replication, backup, and disaster recovery
Automation, observability, and infrastructure troubleshooting
This role is expected to operate beyond the scope of a traditional customer engineer. The Advanced Services Engineer will recognize patterns across customer engagements, identify architectural and product gaps, and drive improvements that benefit the broader OCI customer base.
Success in this role requires the ability to move comfortably between hands-on troubleshooting, customer architecture, workload migration, engineering collaboration, product influence, and technical thought leadership.
The engineer should be equally comfortable diagnosing a difficult production performance issue, reviewing architecture with a customer, debating technical tradeoffs with senior OCI engineers, and presenting product requirements or customer trends to senior leadership.
Certain U.S. based or U.S. customer or client-facing roles may be required to comply with applicable requirements, such as immunization/occupational health mandates, and/or drug testing requirements.
