About Halter
At Halter, we’re on a mission to enable farmers and graziers to run the most productive and sustainable operations. Our customers are using Halter to break free from the time-intensive constraints of conventional practices. Imagine watching 500 cattle stand up and walk calmly towards their next break? No quad bikes, no dogs, no fences. Just a group of cattle walking at their own pace. People say it looks like magic. Our customers are revolutionizing grazing with Halter. It's changing lives and transforming an industry. People join Halter to do meaningful work. By joining us you’ll be solving challenging problems within a talented team and a culture built for high performance. Our team out-think, out-work and out-care. We’re committed to delivering real change in the world - this isn’t easy, and in truth, we love that it’s hard.
We’re backed to deliver on a mission that matters by Tier 1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, BOND, DCVC, Blackbird, Promus Ventures, Rocket Lab’s Peter Beck and Icehouse ventures.

About the role
We are at an inflection point, we're placing our next bet.
We're building something new at Halter, an idea that takes us beyond the collar and into a new class of problems for farmers. It sits where hardware, software, AI and messy real-world operations collide, and it's at the very beginning. Early experiments are already running on farm.
If you want genuine ownership and to be a part of taking a product from 0 to 1, this is it.
What you'll do
You will be the first software engineer on a new product vertical. Own the architecture, the stack, the tooling and the engineering standards from day one. Take this from an experiment to a product that turns early results into something farmers rely on.
It's hard, it's physical, and it hasn't been done before. You will get out on farm regularly to prove things quickly. Build scrappy prototypes, run experiments, kill what doesn't work and develop what does.
Full-stack development / Generalist - Build and own core product features end-to-end. You'll work across the stack, from backend infrastructure to frontend experiences, with a bias toward shipping fast and iterating.
Architecture ownership - Establish foundational patterns and technical decisions that will scale with the company. You'll be the codebase authority and shape the engineering culture.
AI-native development - Use AI tools daily for architecting, building, and debugging across stacks. We expect you to be a power user of modern AI development tools.
You'll be great if you
Full-stack/backend coding excellence, capability and potential will be prioritised over years of experience
Customer obsession, impact focus, intellectual curiosity, execution speed
Bias to action and drive for continuous learning and development
Are low-ego and high-ownership. You'll pick up whatever needs doing, from debugging a flaky pipeline to labelling data by hand to understand what the model actually sees.
Comfort with ambiguity
Collaborative long-term mindset
Daily AI tool proficiency for architecting, building, debugging across stacks
Able to frequently travel to customer farms
