As a Senior Fraud Analyst, you will play a key role in performing detailed fraud trend analysis and optimize rules to enhance performance so that the Bank operates within its risk appetite. across retail banking, mortgages, specialized lending, payments, and digital channels.
This role combines fraud investigations, analytics, risk assessment, and fraud control optimization to support the Bank's fraud management strategy. You will work closely with Operations, Risk Management, Compliance, Product, Technology, and Enterprise Fraud partners to identify emerging fraud threats, improve fraud controls, and enhance customer protection while maintaining an exceptional client experience.
Position Responsibilities:
What You'll Do:
- Fraud Investigation
- Investigate suspected fraud events across banking products and customer channels.
- Review alerts, transactions, customer activity, and supporting documentation to identify fraudulent behaviour.
- Conduct detailed investigations into control gaps.
- Document findings, recommendations, and case outcomes in accordance with internal policies.
- Escalate significant fraud events and emerging risks to management.
- Fraud Detection & Monitoring
- Analyze fraud alerts and transactional activity to identify suspicious patterns.
- Recommend enhancements to fraud detection rules and monitoring processes.
- Support fraud trend analysis and emerging threat assessments.
- Monitor effectiveness of fraud controls and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in fraud prevention initiatives designed to reduce losses and customer impact.
- Fraud Analytics & Reporting
- Prepare recurring and ad hoc fraud reports, dashboards, KPIs, and trend analyses.
- Analyze fraud losses, recovery rates, alert volumes, investigation turnaround times, and control effectiveness.
- Provide actionable insights and recommendations to leadership.
- Support data-driven decision making through analysis of fraud patterns and root causes.
- Fraud Risk & Control Management
- Participate in fraud risk assessments for products, processes, and strategic initiatives.
- Identify control gaps and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Support testing and validation of fraud controls.
- Assist in implementation of new fraud prevention capabilities and technologies.
- Contribute to fraud policies, procedures, and playbooks.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Contribute to fraud transformation initiatives and strategic projects.
- Stay informed on emerging fraud trends, scam typologies, and industry best practices.
- Act as a subject matter expert and mentor for junior analysts.
Required Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Criminology, Data Analytics, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
- 3-5+ years of experience in fraud investigations, fraud operations, financial crimes, risk management, banking operations, or compliance.
- Knowledge of Canadian banking regulations and fraud management practices.
- Experience with fraud analytics, reporting tools, SQL, Power BI, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of Interac, EFT, RTR, digital identity, authentication, and account takeover fraud risks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designation or progress toward obtaining certification.
- Experience writing complex queries to efficiently extract and manipulate large amounts of data.
- Experience with Python for data manipulation is required.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to identify complex fraud patterns.
- Experience working with fraud monitoring tools, case management systems, or analytics platforms.

Salary range is expected to be between
$73,725.00 CAD - $122,875.00 CADEmployees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
