EC Consultant, Rakuten ichiba – EC Consulting Department (Tokyo) (C&M)

Job Description:

Business Overview

Since its founding in 1997, “Rakuten Ichiba” has grown into one of Japan’s largest e-commerce marketplaces.

Currently, more than 57,000 stores operate on the platform, supporting the daily lives of many users through the robust ecosystem known as the Rakuten Economy.

We go beyond simply operating an e-commerce site; by leveraging data and technology, we “empower” businesses nationwide and continue to contribute to the revitalization of the Japanese economy.

Department Overview

The E-Commerce Consulting Department develops and proposes sales and marketing strategies for our retail clients.

Rather than simply selling products, we provide strategic consulting services as “partners” who work closely with our clients to support their business growth and share in their success.

Position:

Why We Hire

As the Rakuten ecosystem continues to expand, Rakuten Ichiba’s role is becoming increasingly important.

With merchant expectations on the rise, we are seeking colleagues who bring fresh perspectives and enthusiasm to help us strengthen our specialized consulting capabilities.

<Attractive points>

・Unparalleled Data Analysis Skills: You’ll develop the skills to formulate logical and scientific marketing strategies by leveraging Rakuten’s vast purchase data.

・Gaining a Management Perspective: By engaging in direct dialogue with store owners and playing an active role in resolving business challenges, you’ll elevate your perspective as a business professional.

・A Sense of Social Contribution: This is an environment where you’ll experience a profound sense of fulfillment as your proposals boost store sales, positively impacting the local economy and the lives of store owners.

・Ecosystem Synergy: You’ll discover the excitement of creating comprehensive proposals that leverage the diverse services of the Rakuten Group.

Position Details

With the mission of maximizing sales for stores on “Rakuten Ichiba,” you will serve as a partner to these stores and be responsible for strategic consulting sales.

<Specific Responsibilities>

・Current Status Analysis and Goal Setting: Collaborate with merchants to establish sales targets and develop medium- to long-term sales strategies based on market data and competitor analysis.

・Optimization of Customer Acquisition and Promotions: Utilize Rakuten’s big data to optimize ad placements and propose campaigns tailored to peak sales periods (such as Shopping Marathon and Super SALE).

・Proposals for Store Operations Improvement: Analyze metrics such as page traffic, conversion rates, and average order value to support UI/UX improvements and refine product messaging.

・Product Development and Asset Proposals: Support the development of original products and private labels that leverage the store’s strengths, and propose cross-selling opportunities that combine diverse Rakuten Group services (logistics, payments, finance, etc.).

<Work Style Characteristics>

・Responsibilities: Each representative manages approximately 100 stores simultaneously. While areas of responsibility are divided by product category, there are cases where representatives handle a broad range of responsibilities to cultivate a multifaceted perspective.

・Business Partners: Representatives primarily engage in direct dialogue with corporate executives, decision-makers, and store managers. Since these interactions require in-depth discussions from a management perspective, business skills improve dramatically.

・Sales Style: Work is carried out flexibly, combining office work and in-person meetings (including business trips) in a 7:3 ratio. Day-to-day follow-ups are handled via email and online meetings, while face-to-face meetings are used to align on medium- to long-term strategies and budget proposals, thereby building relationships.

・Division of Labor: A dedicated call center handles technical questions and operational support, creating an environment where you can focus on your core task: “developing strategies to increase sales.”

Work Environment

The company is organized into six departments based on product categories and is a dynamic, flat-structured organization with a workforce primarily in their 20s and 30s.

Employees from a wide variety of industries—including apparel, finance, beverage manufacturing, and English conversation schools—are thriving here.
