Operational Risk Associate
Lloyd's of London · Belgium · 1d ago
Lloyd’s is the world’s leading insurance and reinsurance marketplace, bringing together the world’s leading risk takers to advance global progress.
Our strategy is focused on delivering strong underwriting performance, operating an efficient and flexible marketplace, and maximising the capital advantage of the Lloyd’s market — while continuing to build a Lloyd’s we are proud of.
How we deliver this, matters. We take the risk, make things happen, and own the outcome — working together across our global network to turn insight into impact.
Lloyd’s is seeking to recruit an Operational Risk Associate to join the Risk Management team at Lloyd's Insurance Company (LIC) in Brussels. You’ll play an important role in overseeing and enhancing our operational risk framework, working closely with stakeholders across the business to identify risks, challenge thinking and support positive outcomes.
This role offers broad exposure across operational risk, giving you the opportunity to influence how we manage risk in areas such as operational resilience, outsourcing and third-party risk, information security, data risk and regulatory compliance.
You'll have the autonomy to take ownership of key activities while working alongside experienced risk professionals in a collaborative and supportive environment.
What you'll do
- Lead and deliver assigned operational risk oversight activities, including risk assessments, control testing, incident reviews and thematic analysis.
- Monitor risk exposures and assess alignment with risk policies, standards and appetite.
- Provide constructive, evidence-based challenge and practical recommendations to stakeholders across the business.
- Identify emerging risks, trends and control weaknesses, helping drive continuous improvement.
- Produce clear and insightful reporting for senior management and risk committees.
- Support the development and delivery of LIC's annual Risk Plan.
- Promote a strong risk culture through collaboration, communication and sharing good practice.
- Build trusted relationships across LIC and its European branch network.
What you'll bring
We're looking for a risk professional who combines analytical thinking with strong stakeholder engagement skills.
You'll ideally have:
- Experience within operational risk, risk management, compliance, audit or assurance.
- A strong understanding of operational and non-financial risk management frameworks.
- The ability to analyse complex information and translate it into clear insights and recommendations.
- Experience working with stakeholders across multiple business areas.
- Confidence presenting information and providing challenge to senior colleagues.
- Knowledge of financial services and regulated environments.
- Experience interpreting and applying regulatory requirements. Exposure to Belgian or EU regulatory frameworks would be an advantage.
- Insurance experience is helpful, but not essential. We're interested in people with transferable skills and relevant experience from across financial services.
Being inclusive at Lloyd’s is integral to how we work — and how we deliver impact.
We aim to build a diverse, inclusive environment that reflects the global markets we serve, where everyone is treated with dignity and respect and supported to reach their full potential.
We take the risk by challenging traditional thinking and being proactive about inclusion. That means being open and positive about workplace adjustments, prioritising health and wellbeing, and investing in diversity and inclusion training so everyone feels able to contribute and succeed.
We make things happen by turning our commitment into action. Through employee networks, mentoring, volunteering opportunities and sustained investment in professional development, we create an environment where inclusion is experienced day‑to‑day — not just talked about.
We own the outcome by focusing on impact. By bringing together diverse perspectives and the best minds in the industry, we work collaboratively with underwriters and brokers to create innovative, responsive solutions that share risk and solve complex problems across global markets.
